Standard Auto Wreckers: Movie Star!
Ryan O'Connor, CollisionRepairMag
****

Dec 3, 2007

The automotive recycling industry receives a very positive image boost in the groundbreaking new documentary, "Garbage - The Revolution Starts at Home!" thanks in part to David Gold. David is the co-owner of Standard Auto Wreckers and a regular columnist for Collision Repair magazine. The movie follows the McDonald family for three months to document the amount of garbage they accumulate in their home in Toronto. Along the way they realized that the biggest potential piece of garbage they owned was their vehicle. What would happen to it when it died?

In answer to this question, the McDonalds took their Jeep into Standard Auto Wreckers and had a chat with David. Looking as though he was born for the silver screen, David explains the methods used by conscientious auto recyclers while showing them around his facility.

The movie was filmed during the months of October, November, and December in 2005. Typical of the Christmas season, the family produced more garbage in December than the other two months combined. Andrew Nisker, director of the film, is developing a screening and promotional campaign in the hopes of influencing people to conserve more household waste. Perhaps it will also give the general public a better understanding of how the automotive recycling industry functions.
